My family lived in this housing area on Flemingstrasse from 1962 to 1964. It was by far the nicest housing we lived in during our five years in Germany ... comparable to homes in the United States. I'm friends with several people on Facebook who also lived there at the same time. Our fathers worked with the Army and with the Voice of America.

The Nazi Party reorganized as the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiter Partei (NSDAP - National Socialist German Workers Party), it had offices in the Sterneckerbräu brewery at Tal 54, near the city center (the address on the street side is now Tal 38). The Party had its offices here from 1 January 1920 until 31 October 1921. The official Party platform was formulated here on 24 February 1920, and Adolf Hitler (who had joined the previous autumn) outlined the Party program to the public in the famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall that same evening. Being a "bagger" at the Commissary was a pretty well-paying job back in the '70s. The beef that was sold in commissaries was typically from Argentina. Always loved the EES ice cream. Dad liked the Neapolitan and would pop open the carton and slice squares to serve. Also have fond memories of the many Canada Dry soda flavors.

When we moved there in '70, the hospital had one of three movie theaters available to us (main theater + the one over the commissary). Pretty sweet for such a small housing area.
