When McGraw Kaserne was operating as a US Army post the "L" shaped building on the left was called von Steuben Hall. It was the headquarters of the McGraw Post Commander and his support staff. The building to the right was the Military Police office and Military Police barracks.

During it's U.S. Military history it was known as the 225th. Station Hospital. It was the main military hospital for the Munich area as well as Southeastern Germany.

I stayed at the Munich American High School, sleeping in the accomodation block that was situated next to the helicopter landing pad, for 2 weeks in July both 1960 and 1961 while on an exchange trip between Munich and Edinburgh, Scotland. I have many happy memories of these 2 breaks and always wondered what happened to the American boys and girls that we met at that time. We Scots also had an early introduction to the Twist and someone by the name of Chubby Checker, ah halcion days. Although I am not either American or German, I thank the people that took us to their hearts during our all too short holiday I had to have a little treatment at the Hospital across from the school and like chinese whispers, by the time I got back to School, I had had major surgery. The officer who checked me in was a Lt. Cooney, I believe that some arrangement had been made between the American Authorities and a Herr Hackel from the Munich City Council. I was amazed by the beautiful hospital and the surrounding complex that you had to live in. I hope that this may trigger some happy memories amongst you older citizens ome where in the world. Es ist ein seltener Luxus, das die soziologische Fakultät in München über ein komplett eigenes Gebäude verfügt. Dennoch läuft man beim ersten Mal gerne daran vorbei, da es sich bis auf ein relativ kleines Schild nicht von den Wohnhäusern in der direkten Umgebung unterscheidet. Also Augen auf! ;-) Die Fakultät befindet sich - wenn man von der Mensa kommt - auf der linken Seite. Mit dem <a href="http://www.deutschland-preisvergleich.de/tag/auto" title="Auto">Auto</a> sollte man nicht hinfahren, es gibt in Schwabing so gut wie keine (freien) Parkplätze.
